Anglo American Platinum’s Twickenham mine in the Limpopo province of South Africa has been hit by a strike of 524 National Union of Mineworkers members, Reuters reports.
The union says the workers are demanding the reinstatement of 165 employees whose contracts have been terminated by the mine.

Amplats is considering a float of its labour-intensive South African mines around Rustenburg after rejecting offers from would-be purchasers that were described by a company and banking source as not high enough, Reuters reported.
The company said in February it hoped to complete a review of underperforming assets and reach a decision on whether to sell or list four mines by the end of June.

Amplats is cutting 474 jobs at its South African operations this week as part of restructuring plans agreed with unions in 2013 as softer commodity prices and a wave of strikes eroded profits.
