The early completion of repairs to the Anglo Converter Plant Phase A unit at its Waterval smelter at Rustenburg has enabled South African major Anglo American Platinum to lift its refined production guidance for 2020 to 2.6-2.7Moz PGM.
Amplats reduced its forecast to 2.5Moz last month, ahead of the unit’s resumption. Sales volumes have now also been upgraded to 2.8Moz including the draw-down of minor metal refined inventories.
Following the successful adoption of new COVID-19 protocols, CEO Natascha Viljoen forecasts group metal in concentrate production in FY2021 to reach 4.2-4.6Moz at a unit cost of R11,000-11,500/oz PGM - up from its FY2020 guidance of 3.6-3.8Moz at R11,800-12,200/oz.
