Delays in completing the rebuild of its Polokwane smelter in South Africa, blamed on a defective consignment of materials, have led Anglo American Platinum to reduce its FY2022 refined PGM production guidance by up to 7.5% to 3.7-3.9Moz.
CEO Natascha Viljoen says the substandard materials were detected by the company’s quality assurance processes, and the delivery of replacements would delay recommissioning of the smelter by two months.
The company’s metal in concentrate guidance remains at 3.9-4.3Moz and unit cost guidance at R14,000-15,000/oz PGM.
