Australian gold major Evolution Mining has stuck with specialist contractor Barminco at its Cowal mine in NSW, awarding the Perenti group company a 4-year contract worth nearly $A520M to develop the second underground portal and conduct production works.
The contract is one of the largest wins for Barminco, which has been developing an exploration decline and conducting diamond drilling since early 2021 at the mine 350km W of Sydney.
International mining services contractor Perenti Global is working with Botswana miner Khoemacau Copper and authorities to establish the cause of an accident that killed two employees of its subsidiary Barminco at the Zone 5 mine on May 20.
Khoemacau says the two blasting crew members, one a local employee and the other an Indonesian citizen, were working in the underground mine 140m below the surface. Their bodies were found by colleagues who followed them underground.
Leading Australian nickel producer Western Areas is confident it’s slashed price inflation risks on a significant proportion of pre-production capital expenditure by awarding two major construction works contracts for the Odysseus mine development at its Cosmos operation, 30km N of Leinster in WA.
It’s named RUC Cementation Mining Contractors for shaft haulage, infrastructure design, construction and equipment and awarded the $A48M concentrator EPC contract to GR Engineering Services.
Panoramic Resources has executed a $A34M, 3-year contract with NRW Holdings’ subsidiary processing engineer Primero Group, for the restart, operation and maintenance of the existing ore processing plant and non-processing infrastructure at the Savannah Nickel Mine in Western Australia’s E Kimberley region
Australian miner Panoramic Resources has begun underground development and ore production ahead of schedule at its revived 100%-owned Savannah nickel project in WA’s East Kimberley region with the finalisation of a 4-year, $A280M mining contract with Barminco.
Ore processing is now expected to start in Nov, with first concentrate shipment due in the following month.
Newcrest Mining has issued hard-rock underground mining specialist Barminco a letter of intent to develop a 3.5km exploration decline at its 70%-owned Red Chris gold-copper project in BC, Canada.
Ground activities are expected to start about mid-2021 on the 1.17Bt resource in the Golden Triangle about 1,700km N of Vancouver. The contract is expected to generate about $A38M over 16 months for Perenti Group company Barminco.

Hard-rock underground specialist Barminco will continue to provide full underground mining services for Gold Fields at its 100%-owned Agnew gold mine at Leinster in Western Australia through to December 2023 with the award of a new contract extension valued at over $A200M.
The contract extension results from Gold Fields’ increase in development and production physicals at the 0.5Mozpa underground mine.
Australian hard-rock underground mining contractor Barminco has made its entry into the New South Wales mining industry for the first time with the award of an eight-month decline development contract by mid-tier miner Evolution Mining at its Cowal gold operation 350km west of Sydney.
The Perenti Group company has also been engaged by Evolution to participate in early contractor involvement processes as part of its underground feasibility study for the world-class openpit mine.
Leading Australian hard-rock underground mining contractor Barminco has been awarded an 18-month initial extension of its development and production contract at MMG’s Dugald River zinc mine in Cloncurry, Qld. The extension will be work about $A140M, with a further two one-year extensions.
Barminco has been operating at Dugald River since its commencement in 2012, and its relationship with the international base metals miner goes back to 2001 at the Rosebery mine in Tasmania.
