The Ausdrill-Barminco J/V has won the $US160M rollover/extension of services contract at gold miner Roxgold’s Zone 55 and the commencement of works for Bagassi South mining contract in Burkina Faso.
The Ausdrill/Barminco J/V, African Underground Mining Services (AUMS), has picked up a $US211M mining services contract from Canada-based miner SEMAFO for the Siou underground gold mine in Burkina Faso.
The contract, expected to be for 70-months, is for all underground mining services, including development/production activities and is expected to start Q3, 2018.
West Australian underground hard-rock mining contractor Barminco will extend its association with Western Areas at its Forrestania Nickel Operations beyond 15 years with the award of a new three year contract.
The contract, worth estimated total value of $A236M, covers mining services and diamond drilling at the Flying Fox and Spotted Quoll underground mines.
Barminco has been working at Flying Fox since 2005 and at Spotted Quoll since the underground mine opened in 2011.
Newmont Ghana Gold has awarded the mining services contract for the new Subika underground mine at its Ahafo gold complex in Ghana to African Underground Mining Services, the 50:50 JV of Australian contractors Ausdrill and Barminco.
The 5-year contract covers development and production, diamond drilling and associated services has an estimated value of $US280M. AUMS expects to begin activities in the current quarter.
A push since Jan by underground mining contractor Barminco to accelerate development of IGO'S 100%-owned Nova nickel-copper-cobalt project has brought its ramp-up to its 1.5Mtpa nameplate production forward by a full 12 months to the Sept 2017 qtr.
The mine's predicted metal in concentrate production for the year to June 2017 is 5,000-6,000t Ni and 1,900-2,300t Cu, with first offshore shipments scheduled to commence in the June qtr.

JV partners Northern Star Resources, Rand Mining and Tribune Resources have switched to contract mining at their Kundana gold project in Western Australia, awarding underground hard-rock mining contractor Barminco a 3-year, $A275M contract. It includes a 2-year option.
Barminco says the contract, one of its largest, covers development, production, bogging, haulage, maintenance and underground operations. Existing JV staff will be offered employment.
The African Underground Mining Services JV of Ausdrill and Barminco has been dumped by Randgold Resources from its underground contracts at Gara and Yalea gold mines in Mali.
Randgold has told AUMS it is switching to owner-miner operations, and has opened discussions on the timing of the transition and acquisition of its inventory and equipment.
For Ausdrill, the decision has helped prompt a full review of how to improve its performance that will be reported with its FY15 financial results.
