A $40M contract for a package of works at the Tropicana gold project in Western Australia’s Eastern Goldfields region has been awarded to Southern Cross Electrical Engineering.
Southern Cross will start immediately on the package, which includes electrical, instrumentation, communication and process control plant infrastructure works.
Considerable supporting infrastructure is required for the project, including a new 11kv overhead power line, which will be constructed by Southern Cross subsidiary SCEE Infrastructure.
Work on the Southern Cross contract is expected to be completed by May 2013.
The Tropicana project, 330km east-northeast of Kalgoorlie, is a joint venture between AngloGold Ashanti Australia (70%) and Independence Group (30%).
