With its long fight for approval of the expansion of its New Acland coal mine still locked up in the Queensland courts, Australian miner New Hope has posted Jan qtr (Q2FY21) total saleable coal production of 2.36Mt compared to 2.12Mt in the prior period. Total sales reached 2.57Mt (Q1FY21: 2.31Mt).
The saleable coal production was 455,000t (468,000t) from New Hope’s 100%-owned and operated Queensland mines and 1.91Mt (1.65Mt) from its 80%-owned NSW mines.
Despite late gains in thermal coal prices, the company says it expects prices to flatten as the peak winter buying period ends.
