Australian major Northern Star Holdings has awarded an enabling works contract to CPB Contractors for the tailings storage facility recommissioning project at its flagship Cadia gold and copper project near Orange in NSW.
The project will be delivered in an alliance partnership with Newcrest subsidiary Cadia Holdings.

The study contemplates a high-lift, undercut block cave delivering up to 25Mtpa crushed ore to produce 3.7Moz gold and 670,000t copper over about 16 years.
For estimated total capital expenditure of about $A1.4B, the study calculates real after-tax IRR of 18% and NPV of $1.8B.
Australian mining giant Newcrest Mining has pulled the trigger on a $A287M investment in the West Dome Stage 8 cutback to continue the life of its Telfer gold mine in WA into early 2024-25.
The new cutback adjacent to the current West Dome Stage 2 and Stage 5 pits should produce its first ore in the current qtr.

It says the Brucejack rescue team has been working to establish safe entry to the underground mine 950km NW of Vancouver following the incident on Oct 22.
