A fall of about 3Mt of material in the long-disused openpit triggered by a weekend thunderstorm has forced a temporary halt to the underground options at Petra Diamonds' Cullinan mine in South Africa.
All employees were evacuated as a precaution after the large dust plume entered the underground mine, but mining resumed on Monday evening once safety checks were completed. It does not expect a material impact on production.
Chief executive Richard Duffy says Petra will continue steps to address pit stability.
